Oct 16: Morning Fun with Max

Yesterday morning Neelee dropped Max off at 9am so she could go get a few things done.  Gavin loved waking up knowing his buddy was coming to play for a few hours!  We started inside, but they were determined to get out in the backyard ASAP.  The weather was nice so we made it happen.  I set up a painting project for them, which lasted all of about 5 minutes before the easel took a crash.  It was then on to playing baseball/soccer and helping (or hindering, really) me rake all the pine straw and pine cones out of the yard.  By the time Neelee came back to pick up Max they were CRANKY, hungry, and had totally forgotten the meaning of sharing.  Not a good combination.  Lunch and nap were up on the agenda...

...and then the easel fell and stuff went everywhere!  We've got to get new clips to hold the paper on the easel, as they didn't survive the crash :(

So we moved on to snack time and playing baseball!

Oct 15: Ogeechee Seafood Festival

Friday night was the start of the Ogeechee Seafood Festival in Richmond Hill.  Last year I ran in the 5k and then we did the festival.  It was tough to watch the 5k from the sidelines this year, but I knew my bladder wouldn't handle the off road run very well at almost 25 weeks pregnant!  We cheered on some fellow army wives that participated and then walked to the pavilion for dinner.  There were so many vendors set up it was hard to decide what to eat.  We went with Low Country Boil.  I was able to convince them to leave out the shrimp but give me extra of everything else!  We also got a fresh squeezed lemonade.  Next was the carnival, which was a total waste of money.  We stood in line for tickets, to find out that they were $1 each and every ride was a minimum of 3 tickets, even those for the small children.  I got 6 tickets, only to get inside and have Gavin tell me he didn't want to ride any of them.  He said "I just watch, Mommy."  I ended up dragging him on the carousel (it's the only ride they'd let me get on with him).  He enjoyed it, but still wasn't in the mood for any other rides.  We didn't stay much longer, as the carnival was so dusty and Gavin was starting to cough from it all.  We gave our other 3 tickets away on the way out and headed home.  The drive home made me smile - we were listening to a contemporary radio station and Gavin heard them say "Jesus" and "Bible" and then sang "Jesus Loves Me" and "Jesus Loves the Little Children" the entire ride home!  It was so sweet.  When we got home I had to give Gavin a breathing treatment.  All that dust caused him to wheeze pretty bad.  Gotta love the fall...

I'd say this is a false start!

Sugarland

October 14th was ladies night out!!!  I got a sitter for Gavin and a group of us went downtown to enjoy dinner at Carlitos Mexican and then walked to the concert at the Savannah Civic Center.  Little Big Town was supposed to be the show opener, but they didn't come.  Bummer!  We still really enjoyed just seeing Sugarland though.  A perk was the show was a bit shorter and I didn't have to pay as much for the sitter!  :)  Here are a ton of pictures from the evening, my zoom lens really came in handy!

Gavin wasn't too sure what to think when the lights first went out.  He's also getting his two year molars and had his flu/H1N1 vaccine earlier in the day, so he was a clingy boy through the concert.  I didn't mind, as he had his head on my shoulder and his arms around my neck for most of the evening!  That RARELY happens!

Toddler Story Time

We made it to the 3rd week in a row of story time at the library.  Gavin is really enjoying it now, as he's learning the songs and the lay out of how it all goes.  Yesterday morning the project room was opened back up so they were able to do some finger painting after.  The theme of the day was colors, so they read several books about color, talked about rainbows, sang a few color songs, etc.  The main story was called "White Rabbit's Color Book" about a white rabbit who had three bowls of paint - one red, one blue, and one yellow.  It talked about mixing two colors to make a new color, etc.  The finger painting project they did after was great, as they had red, blue, and yellow paint, and they got to experiment mixing the colors on a paper of a white rabbit.   I'm pretty sure Gavin wasn't aware of the "experiment", but he had fun none the less!  Max was also able to come to story time this morning, so they giggled through the entire morning together.

Somehow he actually kept all the paint on the paper and none on his clothes :)

I think he did manage to make green from the yellow and blue!  Not sure if any other mixing went on.

Stella's Dresser

Can't wait until we get the call that Stella's dresser has arrived... ready to start putting her things in the drawers!

Gavin now has a "project bin" - the orange crate on the top is still stuff I have to go through, but it's getting there.  The drawers are full of educational things we often use: art supplies, things for sorting, playdoh, etc.

24 weeks

Yesterday we reached 24 weeks of pregnancy! I had a doctors appointment in the morning which went well. Gavin and I got to hear Stella's heart beat again. Gavin calls it her "Harp-beap" - love it! It was strong and in the 150's. She was awake while we did the exam so we also got to hear some strong kicks. Measuring my abdomen externally, it measured about 23 weeks along.

Things with me are great as well. I'd gained about 2 pounds since my last appointment at week 20 and am now at just over 10 pounds gained. (10.4 pounds total). My blood pressure was 104/52. I was able to get my flu/H1N1 vaccine at the end of the appointment, so I'm glad to have that finished.

The next appointment will be at 28 weeks, I'll have my hour long glucose test at that appointment. (Yuck!) I'm not looking forward to the short "fast" I'll have to do before that appointment. I seem to always be hungry these days!

Stella is kicking all the time now. She has definite wake/sleep times and can be felt pretty strongly externally. Can't wait for Jason to get home and feel his baby girl move!

After the appointment we stopped at Babies R Us and ordered a dresser for Stella. It's a low, long one so it will double as a changing table. Can't wait until it arrives sometime in the next two weeks! Since Gavin is already in a toddler bed, Stella will use the crib we had for Gavin.

Things with the pregnancy are going really well. Thankfully I haven't really craved anything bad, I most often crave fruit. I can't get enough of pears, sliced apples, various flavors of smoothies, etc! (By the way, the new McDonald's strawberry banana smoothies are amazing! Yoplait also makes some tasty smoothies Gavin and I make at home a lot!)

Under 16 weeks to go!

Busy Day

Well, I can't post photos, but I can still write about our day!  Gavin and I stayed really busy today.  We still have some time before Jason gets back home to us, but my "to do before he gets home list" has been created!  It's much longer then I'd like it to be, but we still have time, and we'll get things marked off one day at a time.  Normally I'm pretty good at procrastinating and just squeezing everything in the last week, but being this pregnant and having Gavin I know I won't manage that well this time around, so I'm starting early!  We put a HUGE dent in the list today.  First we stopped at the library for toddler story time and returned our books while we were there.  I never seem to think Gavin really listens while we are at story time, but once we leave he talks about the books and songs the rest of the day.  I know he's absorbing it all!  Today's "theme" was about counting with your fingers to ten, so we did lots of books about counting!  We also sang "Where is Thumbkin" so Gavin and I have had that in our heads all day.  One book we read was "5 Little Monkeys" and then we took an activity sheet to do later at home.  (We did it before dinner tonight.  Gavin colored the 5 monkeys and then glued them on his tree worksheet!)

After the library we dropped a load of things off at Goodwill then went to get the oil changed in Jason's truck.  Of course it has been sitting for months so it did need a few extra things, but at least the price was manageable this time.  Both his tail lights were out and the place only had one replacement, so I did spend the day driving around in a truck that CONSTANTLY beeped at me telling me "Lamp out" - SO ANNOYING!  Just glad I'm getting it fixed before he gets back!

Next was off to the post office to mail out my September photography orders.  Can't wait until the clients get their prints - they turned out great!

We also stopped at Pet Smart and made LT and Hogan new tags for their collars.  (I've still yet to write about our pet catastrophe this weekend, but LT did get out and was gone for just under 24 hours.  It was SCARY!  Thankfully a kind man found LT running in the street and took him to him home for the evening until a vet was open the next day.  When LT got to the vet, they scanned him for a microchip and our information came up.  They called me Monday morning with LT and we were able to pick him up!  My advice to everyone - microchip your pets!!!)  I blame myself for not having name tags on the dogs collars with our contact info, but we took care of that today!  LT and Hogan now have their name tags and rabies tags on their collars with my cell.  Hopefully this never happens again, but we are better prepared now.

A quick stop a Chick fil A was in order!  I had a coupon for a free sandwich and got Gavin a kids meal - gotta love a cheap lunch!

Next was Motherhood Maternity so I could exchange a shirt I'd bought.  That was a challenge, as I'd forgotten Gavin's stroller, but we made it work and I now have a shirt I'll actually get use out of for the next 3 months.  I'm so glad Motherhood Maternity changed their return policy and now its no issue.

Finally it was time to head home.  Gavin was in no mood to nap, but I still made him have a 1 hour quiet time in his room.  There's no way I'd survive my day without this.  He was great and just played trains in there by himself with the door shut.  I worked on editing a few more photos while he did this.

When he came out of his room we headed outside and tackled more projects.  He helped me wash the Yukon, inside and out.  It looks great now and smells much better!  We also trimmed all the bushes and raked up the mess.  Gavin loves to help when I do this and he uses his own little rake and yard gloves.  I had to laugh when a 7th grader came by wanting to play with Gavin (He lives a few houses down.)  They had a great time together playing in the yard.  The boy has a 3 year old sister, so he's had practice with kids and was great.  He stayed for about 30 minutes running "races" with Gavin up and down the sidewalk and playing baseball with him while I finished up with the yukon.   He told me that Gavin is so funny that he should be on Funniest Home Videos!!!  He headed home when we came in for dinner, but Gavin made him promise he'd come back again another day first!  I can't say I'm surprised that Gavin had such a good time, he's always loved hanging out with older kids and really enjoys the one on one attention of a "cool boy".

We had an easy skillet meal for dinner - Yankee Pot Roast.  Gotta love a meal that requires no preparation and minimal clean up.  We skyped with Gammy for a bit then it was time for bath!  Gavin wanted to rock for a long time after his bath and ended up falling asleep on me.  I savored every moment of it, as that never happens anymore.  Maybe skipping a nap isn't so bad if it leads to him cuddling with me while I watch Law and Order SVU!  :)

Alright, that was our VERY BUSY Wednesday.  I just love marking things off the to do list.  Sometimes I write silly things just so I can mark them off... its true.

Tomorrow is Gavin's first soccer practice!  Better get to sleep.

Oct. 1: HHC Dinner

Friday night we drove out to Richmond Hill for dinner.  HHC has tried to plan a few Friday Night Dinners through the deployment and this one was at Holly Coombs home.  She did breakfast for dinner and it was DELICIOUS!  French toast, pancakes, fruit, sausage, bacon, doughnuts, yogurt covered bananas with sprinkles, and orange juice were just SOME of the items on the menu.  I didn't get any photos to document the evening, but it was a good one.  One of HHC's newborns was in attendance, so I got to hold Addison Hunter for a bit.  Gavin loved looking at her and thought her feet were cute!  She was precious and it made me so excited for the arrival of Stella in January.

When we got home late that night we did get a call that someone in our company had been killed in combat earlier that day.  It was sad news to take being so close to the end of this.  Please lift his family up in prayer, as his wife is 31 weeks pregnant with their first child together.  It's going to be a long road of grieving, and I can't even imagine what she's going through right now.

Sept 30: Pumpkins, Pot Roast, and a Playdate

Making a pumpkin!

Almost finished

Perfect!
Adding it to his "art board"

Love it!

I made the Pioneer Woman's Pot Roast for dinner... made enough for us to eat and another family that recently had a baby boy.  Seaborn was a handsome little fellow, snoozing away when we dropped the meal off.

Since we were on post, we stayed and played with some friends outside until dark.  Gavin had fun at the playground and then trying out all the neighborhood kids toys!

Playing hockey with Ryan

Goal!
